ANTALYA CITY
Antalya is usually the extreme eastern terminus of a long blue Cruise. It is a large modern metropolis built on the site of its ancient predecessors, the best known among these being attaleia founded by the Pergamene king attalus who briefly ruled most of asia minor. hadrians gate commemorating the visit of that emperor in A.D. 130 is a reminder of Roman rule, while the famous fluted minaret of the alaeddin mosque is a mark of seljuk dominion.

Today antalya is a sophisticated city as well as a renowned holiday resort with many fine hotels and great shopping. Within easy exploring distance by car or bus from antalya are the outstanding sites of the ancient cities of termessos, perge, side and aspendos, the latter with its magnificent amphitheater where in summer some performances are held.

KALEIÇI
Antalya is the heart of Turkish tourism, and Kaleiçi is the heart of Antalya. Kaleiçi is the old town inside the city’s fortifications, and consists of a maze of streets lined by old houses. When I got out of the car and headed for Kaleiçi I had planned to stay just a few hours, and could never have foreseen that I would spend eight days wandering through its streets.
